Chapter 15 worksheet:  The author of this chapter is Jerrell H. Shofner Two things in desperate need of reconstruction were the government and economy. Politics- Most members old confederates, no black males  Freedman- Former slaves now working for previous owners for wages.  Demand for cotton was Increasing. White And black farmers alike were given a new structure in which to run their land called freedmen's Bereua. Shofner describes a very sticky situation in regards to President Johnson restoring land ownership to former confederates.  Reflect on how this affects the statewide condition at the time. This affects the states by making people not know the authority they had. Congress had to make their own plan.  Black codes took place by trying to give them their own rights like to read or write. The civil rights act of 1865 was so inefective because it denied blacks protection from equal protection.  The late entry of railroads had a negative impact on Flo...

Spanish Missions and Spanish Forts

Image
The Spanish missions were missions from the Spanish to spread Christianity to the natives.  Fort Saint Marks was around 200 villages with more on the way.  This fort was used to help many missions where the Indians were converted to Christianity. Here they tried to make the natives more like themselves by trying to make them in similar beliefs to their selves.  One of the missions in particular was the Chacato mission which was a mission where they had for a year and eventually moved to Columbus Georgia due to an Indian revolt.

Interesting Facts

This weeks material was very interesting. Starting off with the Spanish missions chapter. This was very interesting. This chapter was about converting any of the natives to christianity.  They would go on missions to find any natives to join and it was working, tho maybe the natives would just be scared as while doing this they had solider's with them. This was incase anything went wrong, but I could see this as scaring the natives. As this went on for time more and more natives joined. However, soon the Spanish would want to strip the natives of their own culture to be just like themselves.  However getting rid of their traditions is not something they wanted to do at all. Obviously you can see why this would not work easily. Say someone told you that you could no longer do a practice from your religion or even not even about religion. Maybe your favorite thing to do, and somebody told you that you could no longer do this. You would probably not only be upset but not li...

Chapter 2 Worksheet

 1. The author is Michael Gannon 10. One argument presented in that Historic accounts are not always clear are when Jaun Ponce came back to Florida, historians don't know the exact spot he landed in. Another was, when the historian could only imagine the horror that the original Florida people had when they found the ultimate artifact. 1. The Fountain of Youth was a fountain that turned older people back into a younger form of themselves. This would be important to Juan Ponce because younger men would be more powerful than broken down older men. The fountain of Youth however was just made up by someone named Peter Martyr. 2. Microbial Invasion is a widespread disease that affected the Floridians and killed off many of them. 1. The thing I found most interesting about this article was how the original Floridians did not want to fight for land however once confronted they did fight to save themselves.  1. The animal that was Introduced to Florida by de Soto was a pig. 5. Reasons...
